Any registered voter of DuPage County may vote "absentee" prior to Election Day either by "mail" or "in person". You may vote "Absentee" if for any reason you may not be able to vote on Election Day. This option is most commonly used by our Military Personnel, College Students and Seniors who are in Nursing Homes or are home bound and find it difficult to get to the Polling Place on Election Day, or to an Early Voting Site; however, that notwithstanding, today any person can use the option to vote "Absentee".
A voter may vote either "Absentee In Person" or Absentee by Mail".
To vote "Absentee In Person", a voter must go to the Office of the Election Commission and fill out an application for an Absentee Ballot; upon completion of the application, the voter will be given an Absentee Ballot to vote on, and will have to vote on the same and turn it in prior to leaving the office of the Election Commission.
To vote "Absentee by Mail" a voter:-
(1) Has to fill out an application for an Absentee Ballot and mail it back to the Office of the DuPage County Election Commission.
(2) The Election Commission, will then mail an Absentee Ballot, for the applicant, to the address indicated on the application for the Absentee Ballot.
(3) The voter will then have to vote on the ballot received, and mail the completed ballot back to the office of the Election Commission; the last day to mail a "voted Absentee Ballot" back to the Election Commission is the Thursday (5 days) prior to Election Day (i.e. by November 1st, 2012) , in order for the vote to be tabulated and counted.
A voter may also file an application for an Absentee Ballot online by going to http://www.dupageco.org/election On the left side, click on "How to Vote" and then on "Absentee Voting". I have personally carried some completed Absentee Voter Applications to the office of the Election Commission, and would be happy to do the same for any of you who want to use the option of Absentee Voting. However, the entire process after the application is filed, is subject to the vagaries of the mail, and I strongly recommend that you use the option to vote "Early" if you can. Nevertheless, in some cases Absentee Ballots may be the only viable option for a voter, and please be assured that I will do what I can to be of help in the matter. However, please remember that time is of the essence, and if you or someone in your family needs to file an application for an Absentee Ballot, now is the time to do so.
