Ill. Rep. Michael Connelly, a Lisle Republican, said it was "good news" the House unanimously passed a bill authorizing a forensic audit of Medicaid in Illinois. The bill was also co-sponsored by other DuPage Republicans, including Randy Ramey, Darlene Senger, Dennis Reboletti and Franco Coladipietro. The bill requires a forensic audit of Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program be conducted by an independent accounting company no later than Jan. 1, 2011. The bill requires the director of the Department of Healthcare and Family Services to report the findings of the audit to the General Assembly along with recommendations to address any adverse findings contained in the audit. The bill will now go to the state Senate. Numerous Republicans have been calling for forensic audits of multiple state programs. Such audits could lead to eliminating wasteful spending. Illinois is currently $12,billion in debt. With the passage of Obamacare Medicaid expenditures, which currently total $13 billion annually and cover 2.4 million people, will rise another $2 billion with an additional 500,000 added to the rolls. |
